Boards & Commissions

There are several volunteer Boards & Commissions which serve important functions in the County. Some of them are described below.

jump Building Board of Appeals

The Building Board of Appeals (BBA) is a quasi-governmental committee, which consists of construction knowledgeable professionals that are appointed by the Board of Commissioners. The BBA is responsible for reviewing and recommending revisions to the building code, evaluating alternative building materials, assisting with interpretations to the codes, and hearing appeals or challenges to a condemnation order.

The Historical Commission oversees the preservation, protection, enhancement and perpetuation of buildings, sites, objects, districts and landscapes which are of unique, singular importance to San Miguel County and its heritage.

 

jump Lodging Tax Panel

The Lodging Tax Panel administers the lodging tax funds for the promotion and advertising of tourism in San Miguel County.

 

jump Lone Tree Cemetery Board

The Lone Tree Cemetery Board oversees administrative decisions related to the Cemetery District 1, including infrastructure planning, grounds maintenance and development of the annual budget.

 

jump Open Space Commission

The Open Space Commission seeks to protect and conserve open space for people, natural habitat for flora and fauna, and agricultural lands for the farming and ranching communities throughout San Miguel County for this and future generations.

 

jump Planning Commission

The seven member Planning Commission is appointed by the Board of County Commissioners.  Each member of the commission shall be a resident of the county.  The Planning Commission’s duty is to make and adopt a Comprehensive Development Plan (Master Plan), which is an advisory document.  The Planning Commission also reviews and makes recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners on zoning, subdivision, planned unit development, and certain special use permit applications.  The Planning Commission also reviews development and special uses as provided for in the county land use code.
