R-1 Residential Impact Fee
All residential construction greater than 1800 sf and additions resulting in a total area greater than 1800 sf are subject to the impact fee.

Appliance Certification

In order to help someone in an emergency, it is vital that law enforcement or the ambulance can find them! Consistent, methodical and well-signed addresses are critical for swift response.

The County addressing system is based on mileage;  if your address is 1205, your driveway is 1.205 miles from the nearest major intersection.  Odd numbers must always be on the north and west sides of the street; even numbers on the south and east.  Numbers should always be in sequence, and positioned logically related to surrounding addresses.  All of these factors combine to make an address system that can be easily understood.  This means that many addresses that don't fit in the system are being changed.  While this is an inconvenience, it might save your life.

Equally important are address and street signs that are reflective and readable, even at night.  The County is currently placing address number signs like the one in the picture at the ends of people's driveways so an ambulance can see which driveway to turn in to.  The County is also placing and replacing street signs.

San Miguel County and the local emergency services community have formed an unofficial task force to create a consistent addressing system for the unincorporated areas of the County, as well as solve existing addressing problems. The Addressing Task Force members collaborated to create guidelines and standards for naming streets and assigning addresses within the unincorporated areas of the County, and the standards were adopted by the County Commissioners in 2005.

These standards include guidelines for naming streets, assigning address numbers, displaying street names on signs, changing street names and changing or correcting address numbers, if necessary. The purpose of these Street Naming and Addressing Standards is to provide for efficient and timely emergency service response for the safety of residents in San Miguel County.

Adoption of the standards has not necessarily changed anyone's address or street name! The process of evaluating and fixing existing address problems is expected to take time and to provide plenty of opportunity for public input.
