Planning Department
The Planning Department is responsible for advising the Board of County Commissioners, the Planning Commission and the public on land use and development issues. The Planning staff oversees development applications and amendments to the County Land Use Code and County Master Plans. The Department Head reports directly to the Board of County Commissioners.

The seven member Planning Commission is appointed by the Board of County Commissioners. Each member of the commission shall be a resident of the county. The Planning Commission’s duty is to make and adopt a Comprehensive Development Plan (Master Plan), which is an advisory document. The Planning Commission also reviews and makes recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners on zoning, subdivision, planned unit development, and certain special use permit applications. The Planning Commission also reviews development and special uses as provided for in the county land use code.

There will not be a Planning Commission meeting held in February 2010.

The five member Board of Adjustment is appointed by the Board of County Commissioners. The Board of Adjustment hears and decides appeals by any person aggrieved by inability to obtain a building permit or by the decision of any administrative officer made in the course of the administration or enforcement of zoning.
