These dates can vary substantially depending on the amount of snow, avalanche danger, spring runoff, equipment and personnel availability and geologic hazards.

Any proposed access to a County Road requires a Driveway Permit, which can be downloaded here. The application form is also available at the Building Department, the Road and Bridge Department, and each of the County Shops.

A Special Construction Permit is required for any disturbance to a County road or right-of-way not considered normal public use; including, but not limited to the following:

  • utility excavation,
  • private maintenance of a County Road,
  • filming of commercials when road conditions are altered, or
  • the operation of any hauling estimated to be in excess of 3,000,000 pounds within a twelve-month period.

Instructions for Electronic Fillable Forms:

  1. Click to download the specific permit (Electronic Driveway Permit or Electronic Special Construction Permit).
  2. Open the permit in Microsoft Word (version 97 up to 2010). Please note if using Word 2010 or 2013 go to File- Info- Enable Editing to begin inputting information.
  3. Fill out the grey boxes with your information.
  4. Type your name and date on page 2- permits without this signature will not be accepted.
  5. Save the document on your computer.
  6. Open your email program, attach the completed permit and email to roadbridge@sanmiguelcounty.org.
